Default Flourocarb knots

I have had a few problems just lately with losing fish when the knot has pulled out, I have been using a bloodknot with about 6 turns but all I am left with is a pigs tail type affair on the end and no fly.
I have tried the palomar knot but find I am losing about 3 or 4 inches of leader everytime I change flies,
Any suggestions please?

Default Uni Knot

You want the Uni Knot!

3-4 turns on heavier lines or 4 turns on lighter lines.

This is the only knot I use and it has me well since my teens and I have never pulled or broken a knot on a fish yet!

Do you use a decent fluorocarbon?

I've yet to be snapped when using Rio FluoroFlex and have had some real scraps from reservoir rainbows.

Use the Davy Knot or double Davy Knot. Not had one pigtail since I started to use the Davy Knot with flouro.

Try the Davy Knot, easy to tie and pretty reliable.

Leave the fluorocarbon at home. Hooked a biggish chub this morning, had a leader on starting at 4.8 kilo and ending in a 1.5 kilo - Saw the fish and didn't put a lot of pressure on him when he went on a run and next thing is he breaks me off on the 4.8 part of the leader and not at a knot. Back to copolymers for me

My exact advice. The uni works for me on every material in every situation in fly or sea fishing.

When conditions dictate, I'll use fluorocarbon, but mostly I use co-polymers and mono. If I do I always use the uni-knot, because it's never let me down, whatever the line. I've seen so many people fail with fluoro, purely because they've used the wrong knot, or as has been mentioned, in the wrong place.

I recently bought 2 spools of Diawa Altmor flourocarbon 9lb bs from N*W*A* but every time I tried to tie up a leader and droppers with it, It snapped. I used all the right knots and even asked my mate Derek to try it to no avail . i wonder if this stuff has a shelf life. I only bought this a few weeks ago and tried to use it for the first time last week. What a waste of money
