Default Cound Trout Fishery

Hi everyone,

I am new to this site so this may have allready been covered. My local Trout Fishery at Cound has now closed down as a Trout Fishery and I hear it is going to be Coarse only.Has anyone here any idea as to what has happend?

Pete.

Hi, hope you enjoy the forum. Yes, its been noted elswhere that its shut although I don't recall anyone knowing any specific reason. Then again, it seemed like it was perhaps a bit hiss and miss in terms of how it was run/stocked, so perhaps not a surprise.

I hope I do as well. I cannot seem to find any answeres to the problem(s) at Cound. I will just have to visit Ellerdine more often now I suppose. I was there on Friday.Very Cold and Wet, but a good days sport was had.

Pete.

The Prince Albert Club have taken it over as a Coarse Fishery. I assume that the lease came to an end and that the Trout Fishery People were unsuccessful. The place was never the same after the old couple left.

Don't forget that you've also got Loynton and Onny Vale fisheries relatively close to Shrewsbury if you fancy a change from Ellerdine. There was also another place in Shrewsbury but I can't recall what it was called - Hill Top Fishery maybe??

Only fished there once, some nice fish moving but hard as nails. The young guy running it was pretty uninterested in the place in my opinion.Fished his brothers place not far away, which we deemed a rip off.
By all accounts he was leasing the water from his dad and had a falling out with him and his dad started running the place again.
Don't forget Delbury Hall. Not on your doorstep i guess, but a lovely little fishery and worth the trek.

The young guy in question was Hadleigh (Davies). Used to post some reports on here occasionally. I didn't fish Cound a lot but enough to notice its variable form and his variable presence. I think he used to chuck a load of fish in early season, all sorts of stuff too (including brookies and blues), then it got publicised, hammered, people bagged up left right and centre....then that was it for a quite a while. Some of the stock fish were also on the small side. Aside from Delbury Hall which I've still not fished (but heard good reports about), Ellerdine gets my vote as best in that general area. Phil Dixon's place at Seighford (just outside Stafford) is a bit on the small side, but fair play, he's putting a lot of effort in and the fish are a good size and fighting fit - was there for a short session today and despite the bleak conditions I had a couple of good fish (one off the top! - hare's ear emerger) and lost a couple more.

The little lake is brilliant for dries all year round.
