Default Fish that leave you cold...

Afternoon all and happy easter!

Just wondering if there are any species of fly caught fish that for whatever reason just leave you cold.? For example, a friend of mine just isn't interested in catching a salmon on fly (or on anything to be honest) whereas to me, it's the pinnacle of the sport.

For some reason, and i don't know what, Grayling leave me a little cold. I'll fish for them, but a grayling session doesnt keep me up for days in advance...

Anyone else?

Cheers
Alex

Odd as it may seem ... for me it's salmon. I've caught plenty but the only really memorable ones have been the 'accidentals' caught when trout or sea trout fishing. Grayling on the other hand I love!

Ive had a fair few salmon, yet i am still like a child in front of the pick n mix every time i see one, let alone hook one. I also am the same when i see a big rainbow cruising among the weeds at a small stillwater, and yet you can put me infront of a pool full of grayling and i'll be impassive at best.

I can get a bit obsessed with whatever species I am after. I spent the end of the coarse season trying to catch a big perch (eventually got a 3lb1oz fish) but was getting "pestered" on a local pond by a number of unseasonable four and a half pound tench which I would otherwise have been delighted to catch in March. Likewise, when I fish for barbel, I don't want to catch chub, and when I fish for tench I don't want to catch carp. An out of season trout when trotting for grayling is a curse, yet the same fish in season on the fly would make my day.

I just like fishing. Coarse, sea, game. Almost any fish leaves me warm on the right day.

Has to be a pike while buzzer fishing. Was fishing a comp last year and about an hour before the end the line took off. Was about 6or7 mins before I seen the green fecker, took the buzzer fair and square in the mouth. Tipped the scales at 13lb, christ I was writting the winning speech until I seen him.

Default Pacific Salmon

I have never fished for them but from what I have seen, admittedly only on the television, Pacific salmon in their various guises certainly leave me cold. I conjure up visions of rivers stuffed full of red fish with massive kypes that seem all too easy to catch. Anglers "trotting" flies dressed as salmon eggs through pools full of kippers only too eager to devour their own offspring etc etc. Now, I realise that this is probably a gross misrepresentation but when you compare it to landing a fresh, silver, streamlined Atlantic salmon then it all seems a little distasteful to me.
As stated at top of the post I have never fished for them so I am expecting a lot of incoming flak over my views. Steelhead on the other hand.....would love to catch one! Hard hat on at the ready.

Have to say I get the same feelings when watching these programs

Blue trout for me. Each to their own, etc. etc., but they look pallid and unnatrural to me. Fortunately only had two of them to date.

Pike are boring, and carp to be honest. I've always found if you leave a carp alone for 5 mins it'll soon give up and come in like a sack of spuds. Whereas pike are like a sack of spuds from the start. Both are ugly.

Now we'll just wait for the pike and carp boys to come and measure their appendages...
