Default Loch fishing near Edinburgh

Hi guys I'm looking to expand my fly fishing horizons.

I live at the west side of Edinburgh, near the bypass and m8

I'm looking for places that are worth fishing, I'm a casual angler, I enjoy being out and would like a reasonable chance of catching a few!

I'm happy on bank or in boat,

Recent years i've fished Loganlea, Glencorse and Allandale Tarn,

Glencorse probably being my favourite in recent times.

any other thought or thoughts on these ones?

how about Clubbiedean, Harlaw, Threipmuir, Harperrigg, torduff, any others within a shortish drive of Edinburgh?

any help greatly appreciated

Hi Eagle,
Harlaw and Threipmuir are great value for money, you get permits from Balerno post office every day apart from sunday when you get them from the water baliff . Its £15 morning till dusk.
Linlithgow loch is top class and so is Crosswoods which is along the lang wang (A70) 3 miles passed Harperrigg. These are both about 20 mins drive from your house.
Hope this helps.

Drumbowie Reservoir

Since 1952, we have leased Drumbowie from Scottish Water. The 35 acre water is located a short distance to the northwest of the Bonnybridge / Denny area , where the Club has a number of accessible boats. Bank fishing is also available to those who like to stretch their legs. The reservoir is stocked through-out the year with hard fighting brown and rainbow trout. The fly activity on the water is prolific with amazing rises often being experienced. On a summers evening, there’s no better place to be.

Membership

Membership of the Club is available to all with no prejudice permitted. We have an very active junior section aged from 12 – 16 ( 18 if in education ). Many of our juniors are members of the Scotland Junior Team and we are extremely proud of them.

Subject to AGM review the membership fees are currently :-

Full Member - £ 70.00 ( + £10.00 joining fee )

Junior Member - £ 10.00

Retired Member – Free after reaching age 65 with 10 years continuous membership.

Winter Member - £ 10.00 Out-with the brown trout season, fishers who intend joining the next season are permitted to join and fish over the winter period. Joining fee is waved when taking full membership.

Members Rota / General fishing

Full members are allocated 7 rota days during the brown trout season with a 2 fish limit then catch and release.

Members who fish as guests of other members will not be charged unless they wish to take fish. Then a £10.00 fee will be charged. Non member guests will be charged a £15.00 fee.

Additional days are available through-out the year when £10.00 will be levied for a day’s fishing.

As you can see, this amounts to extremely affordable fishing.

If you wish to join the club, or have any questions for us please use the contact section on this site and we will be happy to get back to you.

We also meet on Tuesday nights at Bonnybridge Social Club at 8:00pm, drop in and get the low down.

There's:

selmmuir: SELMMUIR TROUT FISHERY | Selmmuir Fishery
Bangour: Bangour Trout Fishery - Home
Morton: Morton Trout Fishery | www.mortonfishery.com

All of which I've fished, and caught fish at, and if I can do it...

hi eaglesrjh, Crosswood is a brilliant fishery on either boat or bank, you are allowed to wade if you wish. Give it a try, and I am sure that you will not regret it. Good luck.
Billy.

I'm pretty sure that when I was last there you couldn't get a ticket from the Bailiff on Sunday, you had to get it on Saturday from Balerno. Check with Malleny Angling, also about current conditions.

Well worth a visit.

Mike

Hi Eaglesrjh,
There are loads of quality waters around the Edinburgh area, the west of the city has plenty, as you mentioned Allandale Tarn and as the other posts all name some quality fisheries especially Bangour, Crosswoods, Morton (fishing well since bought over), Beecraigs and Linlithgow Loch.
Closer to home you've mentioned most, however you cant fish Torduff. Clubbiedean has some great fry chasers (not the biggest but great sport) and some good browns -contact George at Dooks fisheries, George also has Glencorse which is my second home (quality, hard fighting fish and some crackin big browns). As mentioned Harlaw and Threipmuir are great value for money, Threipmuir has some amazing evening rises and excellent browns.
Hope this has been helpful and might catch you up at Glencorse this season. Marc
