Default Trout extinction - should we bother to save them?

Just wanted to expand the debate out from the thread in the international section:

Who thinks its time to take a stand whilst we still can?

Of course, with every specie lost like this from exploitation, it is a failure of humanity. And with every one saved, we learn valuable lessons for the future.
It may not be long before we are looking at our own diverse and unique strains of salmo trutta, and needing the experience gleaned from saving the soft mouth, to preserve some of our own stocks.

Montenegro is not so far away, it is emerging from a messy recent past and I think for effective help, someone needs to go there and experience the problems with topography, and socio/economic, and beaurocratic restrictions first hand to realise the true extent of the problem, and look at the viable measures within the context of the place itself.

This is a very worthy cause. And one within the realms, that realistically a forum like this should be able to drive forward.

YES!!

International Wild Trout Trust - For Endangered Species! lets start in Montenegro, get MJ and his mates to form a "Conservation Group" to begin with - Then, give them some help and advise along the way! But it will take some time! Rome wasn't built in a day!

So who do we contact; and how do we get the ball rolling?

Not being really sure where Montenegro was I googled it and on one of the links I came across this.

'Montenegro is a member of the UN (6.'06), European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) 9.'06, the European Investment Bank, and the IMF and World Bank since Jan '07. Already the EU has provided over €2bn to Montenegro and Serbia since 2000. Investment is going into airports at Podgorica and Tivat, as well as railways, highways and waterways.'

The bit in bold drew my attention but it probably applies to navigable ones. It may be worth pursuing though.

I do! And as time is of the essence we should act now.
The Zeta population were already declared extinct once (2002) so let's not let them down this time.

By the time EU funding filters through, if it ever does , it could well be too late.
