Default 7ft rod for small river, stream and brooks????

Hi gents - ok I'll be honest, I have some birthday money burning a hole in my pocket and I'm thinking of getting a 7ft rod for small river fishing, I'm reading John Baileys fly fishing guide and his reasoning for using a 7ft rod on small rivers and brooks really does make sense to me, more controllable, lighter, easier in undergrowth, dont need the big casting distance etc........I have a 9ft 6" 7 weight rod which has served me well for lakes........ I only started fly fishing late last summer so please dont slaughter me!!!....my other reason is I also want a spare rod to cover a possible breakage one sad day.....whats your thoughts on these two 7ft rods on fleabay, are they good value???....:

Snowbee:

Snowbee Classic Fly Fishing Junior Rod 7ft 5-6 weight on eBay (end time 13-Apr-10 19:48:00 BST)

Wychwood-Truefly:

wychwood truefly rod 7ft #3/4 line rated on eBay (end time 10-Apr-10 16:11:28 BST)

I must admit I like to look of the Truefly item as their line products look to have been very well made and presented and served me well.

Forget them both and find yourself a St. Croix Legend Ultra in 7 foot 9 inch #3. The sweetest small river rod ever made.

You can get them in the UK finally. You won't regret it, treat yourself it's your birthday.

Of the two I'd plump for the Truefly. The Snowbee seems a bit overkill at 5/6 weight

I got the Wychwood truefly 7`0" 3/4 towards the end of last season and prefer it to my Partridge 8`0" 4/5wt. I`m using it with a 3/4 Lamson Konic 1.5 reel and in my opinion, it is the bee`s knees. Peter

guys - excellent responses, thanks very much, I have just taken the pikey cheapskate route and bought a 7ft 3 piece 3wt Fladen-antage from ebay for about £23 delivered. I'm now looking for some 4wt double taper line for it!.....cheers again
