Default Fly sizes

I've been asked to tie some flies in size 10 that are competition compliant.
What do I need to know - I'm not a competition angler myself.

I've tried a search on these forums but the search facility is either very poor or I'm not using it correctly (probably the latter!).

I would appreciate some advice to save me trawling through masses of posts.

Thanks
bbj

Not an expert but total length of fly is 15/16" even when wet no added weight ie lead goldheads etc but close ribbing is allowed going by other thread.I think there is a max size as well ??? maybe size 8 ask the compi boys for best answers.

If I recall correctly (it's been a while) the max size hook for international rules is a 12.

It really depends upon which competition you want to be compliant with ... this is copied from the IFFA site.

3. A fly shall comply with the following specification. The hook shall be single or double provided that in the case of a double hook, the angle between the bends does not exceed 90 degrees and when viewed from the side, the bends lie one behind the other. Fly irons will measure not more than five-eighths of an inch overall, including the eye. The overall length of the fly shall not exceed fifteen-sixteenths of an inch. Fly dressings may include beads provided these beads are buoyant. Attractor chemicals and the use of light emitters to flies are debarred.

That looks like what I'm after - Thanks!
