Default Showing your fish

I have noticed that a lot of guys on here, when photographing their
catch lay the fish next to their rod.
This, I assume, is to give some idea of the size of the fish.
I have noticed that some of them do this so that the manufacturer of
their rod/ reel is prominent in the shot.
Are they being sponsored by the makers and trying to promote that
brand?
Or are they just proud of being the owners of a nice bit of fishing tackle.
When I am lucky enough to catch a decent size trout I will post my
picture on this forum -
but is my Marryat 9ft 5# with my Greys Streamlite reel good enough to
show.
Good fishing to you all

Whenever I photograph a catch I ALWAYS try to include my Sage Z axis with Lamanson reel not forgetting to get my Rolex Daytona in shot. On a good day I can get my Aston Martin just in focus in the background...

Maybe it's bragging OR a way of scaling the fish?? (See avatar with 150lb outfit and £8 fish, or is it the other way round??)

Some T and S correspondents seem to like to show the tackle name. One I can think of in particular.
I'm sure your rod will be fine to show.
Always worth remembering....

Good angler with rubbish tackle = good angler
Good Angler with good tackle= excellent angler
Rubbish Angler with good tackle= rubbish.

I can't speak for why others do it, but when I take a picture of a fish, I tend to put the rod in the picture to give a sense of scale. Given the fact that most makers put their labels on right above the grip, it's pretty hard not to give some free advertising, but I certainly don't give a rats butt if anyone sees what rod I use.

BTW, a tip for those of us who practice C&R, I use tippex / white-out to put small lines on each of my rods to mark off the length from the butt of the rod. This way, I can get a pretty accurate measurement of the length of a fish by holding it up to the rod and then the fish can go back very quickly. Much better than trying to use a measuring tape or whatever else and the marks can be easily removed if you ever want to do so.

once the fly hits the water is not the rod or reel that induces the fish to take. its the right fly at the right time at the right depth with the right retrieve. and as personally i don't hook fish with a strike and 90% of the time it is done with the hand with a sharp pull to set the hook the rod doesn't come into play at all until the fight is on. its not a rod that makes the fisherman even a second rate fisherman can land a decent trout with a cheap rod on a good tippet and even with a cheap rod i can get good presentation no matter what reel i use. that said a nice expensive rod makes life so much easier and looks good in a pic and also adds to the ego and sunglasses help too. having said all that theres nothing better than fishing with top tackle and catching fish it boosts confidence and the ego and when im in the England team it will be a must. lol

Please ignore the prestigious reel and matching rod
My new Sage TCX is 100 times better than this old stick so expect the same picture in the future but with a different rod.
What are you meant to do?
Carry a old rod around with you for photos?
