Default catch & release - early grafham

Hello Forum

So I'm regularly fishing Grafham early season and the boat tactics suggest Di7's with boobies, and I'm catching well - rod ave 6.00.

One question I have is the validity of promoting this tactic when, even with debarbed hooks, many of the fish are 'too far gone' (i.e VERY deeply hooked) to realistically be released following the fight?

Is Anglian Water content to advertise this known fish 'killing' method when selling C&R tickets?

JD

I think when advertising the fact anglian would be hoping that fisherman will keep the booby moving which should result in fish being hooked properly at least after your limit has been reached yours hopefully john

I would say Anglian water are recommending flies and methods that will catch fish. If the angler is fishing C&R isn't the onus on him/her to ensure the fish are in a fit state to be returned? If you think not, then I'd suggest you refrain from fishing this method.

Default true,,,,but

when the advice suggest anchoring 100yds off the bank with a very short leader, allowing the booby to get right to the bottom, ... surely the deep hooking is bound to happen?
