Default What overseas places would you like to fish?

What overseas places outside Britain would you like to goto for a game fishing holiday?

There's a whole heap of places I'd love to goto. The Falklands, Norway, Ireland, Iceland, the Coca Cola Peninsula, New Zealand, Canada, the US and Alaska.

There's a whole bunch of other places to but those are the ones that immediately spring to mind.

I was meant to have gone to Cape Verde the last few weeks just for a regular holiday visiting different islands doing a bit of hiking and possibly some sea fishing too, but I didn't plan it too well and costs were too much in the end so I had to cancel that one. I'm hoping to go to Cape Verde later in the year, possibly at the end of the year. I have all the maps and guide book ready for that one I just need to make sure to book the flights well in advance so I can get them cheaply.

I'm really thinking about going to Iceland though to do a whole bunch of fishing in the summer maybe June or July. Has anyone been there and what were your thoughts? Is it expensive? Also what are the main towns like for accommodation and nightlife/culture?

I put Ireland on my list as well as I've never been fishing there even though its just across the water. I'll have to rectify that one soon as well.

Cheers!

John

Austria - frequently - for exceptional trout & grayling fishing. British Columbia for 5 species of Pacific salmon plus steelhead. That one costs lots so can only be done every three years or so.

I always wanted to go to Mongolia to fish for Taimen, and very nearly did; I had a trekking trip booked with my wife, but it had to be cancelled because she discovered she had a bun on the way.
Another destination which has always intrigued me is Kamchatka for a run of steelhead which had significance to the local native population (I read about this years ago in an article on the Patagonia site when they arranged this 6 month long "reasearch" trip).
And lastly, even though it's not as exotic as the other two, Patagonia. I also nearly went here for our honeymoon, but it was the wrong time of the year (April).
Iceland sounds great, but it seems to be the flavour of the month at the moment - it seems everyone is either offering a trip there, doing some sort of feature film, or article of the great fishing available. The prices also seem to have jumped significantly since last year.

The Alta and Aaro rivers in Norway have always been a dream of mine, (with the Vosso, but that's dead now ) and i have a SERIOUS Rio Grande shaped itch at the moment!! Also hankering to go back to Corrib. i used to fish it every year, but haven't been for a long time. I would also dearly love to catch a big blue/black marlin.

I've been lucky enough to have fished a few 'destinations'. For those that have mentioned Iceland above, i usually go every other year and cannot recommend it enough. If anyone wants any detail, please pm me, but in a nutshell, the food is superb, the lodges are very comfortable and the nighlife in Reykjavik is debauched. Since the currency collapsed it's not ruinous to eat and stay there, but the fishing can be very pricey. I understand the trout, char and seatrout fishing isn't too bad, but the salmon fishing is bloody pricey. That said, you have the very real chance of catching 5 or 6 or more fish a day, but they're usually not monsters. our river is a big fish one, but most of the fish are 7-10lb wiht a fair few in the 15-18lb class and one or two up to about 25lb. most other Icelandic rivers have slightly smaller fish.

For me it would be......

1. Cuba for the bones
2. Kola peninsula
3. Terra Del Fuego for the sea trout

I will fish these places before i go!

Just as I was starting secondary school 'A river runs thorugh it' came out and ever since then I've wanted to fish in Montana. Not the most amazing place in the world but ho hum.

I'm off to France later in the year so that would be nice to try. Also my mrs was born in the Falklands so we're off there at some point to see her Dad... could be worth buying a travel fly rod.

Well, I'd like to get back to Scotland and fish a lot more. The whole experience counts for a lot with me, I can do the fish-camp-in-the-boondocks thing anytime I want, so I like Scotland because it's a totally different deal. Plus, catching an Atlantic salmon is always a thrill, but then there's catching an Atlantic salmon in Scotland.

I'd also like to wander around Ireland and Northern Ireland for a while and fish. Again, besides the chance for some really nice fishing, the draw for me is nice fishing in a really beautiful and interesting place.

I guess it's only "overseas" if you count crossing the St. Lawarance, but Quebec is high on my list as well. Again, a beautiful place to try to catch some Atlantic salmon and you never know, if the fish show up, it can be epic up there.

I'd also like to fish some of the Hudson Bay tributaries to the west of York Factory for sea run brook trout. I'm going to do this some day, it's just a huge undertaking as far as logistics, mutlitple "change down" float plane trips, etc.

The Azores.
BIG MARLIN and lots of them.
If travelling distance for fishing, why target things you can get in this part of the world?
