Ok here goes,
1) CDC does not sink unless a, waterlogged, b, gummed up, or c, tied on a hook that is too heavy.
2) CDC feather floats because of the structure of the feather, not because of ducks bum grease or preen glands or anything like that.
3) If CDC gets waterlogged or gummed up the only way to really resurrect the fly is as follows
Wash it throughly in the river, this removes all the fish slime, duckweed etc etc that have caused the sinking.
Blow on it and shake it very firmly
Dry it between two sheets of Amadou.
Blow on it again
Carry on fishing.
I was shown this by a famous Swedish fly fisher and trust me it works. I used to think 1 fish 1 fly for CDC but not now.
Make sure your amadou is at least 4 inches square or it will get too wet too soon.
If it is on a hook that is too heavy change your fly supplier.
Regards
