Default River Ribble Mitton - Tips

Hello All

New to fly fishing and I have done the still water stuff and am ready for a challenge on the rivers I think.
Does anyone have any tips for fishing the Ribble at Mitton ie: types of fly and methods to use for this time of year?
Was thinking of having a go at the day ticket water there as it looks reasonable.

Thanks

What species are you targeting? There are trout, salmon, seatrout, grayling, chub etc in there...

General river trout tactics should work fine then mate. Usual dries if there are fish moving (Klinks etc), or wet spiders seem to do ok. If you fancy some bugging then czech nymphs can do ok in the right water. Basically pick the way you want to fish!!!

I catch most of my chub on big lures for seatrout at night!

There are some big grayling hiding amongst the shaley ledges immiediately below the road bridge. The water is heavily fished and a poor representation of the Ribble as a game river - which can be excellent in the upper mid reaches - but there isn't much quality river fishing available on a day ticket around here I'm afraid. You might encounter a few sorry stockies on the flats towards the lower limit at Calder foot.
