Depends on the fishing situation mate. Both have their useful qualities. I find copolymer nice and supple so i tend to use it when fishing dries.
Flouro is stiffer so i like it when i need to put a dropper on because it tends to tangle less.

I have used copolymer leaders with a flouro tippet in the past as this helps to sink the few feet at the fly. (flouro sinks quicker). Make sure the flouro is of less diameter than the tip of your leader when doing this. Dont always assume a smaller breaking strain = less diameter.

Sometimes knotting the two together can have its issues. This is maybe why you were given the advice you were.
I find this knot is fine if you are careful http://www.animatedknots.com/bloodkn...matedknots.coml.

Hope this helps
Tight lines

Default Mono/Fluoro

Hello Horses

I have fished maxima mono with fluoro droppers. An idea passed on by a fellow Bristol Water fly fisher.Worked just fine.

I have also put a short fluorocarbon tippet on copolymer sometimes for top water fishing and no problems.I use the "perfect" dropper knot on the UKSWFF site to do this.I did this totally unaware it is a no no so maybe I just got lucky.

Best JP

I think when it was first introduced there was problems with the knots not holding out.
