There was recently a discussion on here over a clip on you tube where a guy kills a fish with the back of a knife. He was slaughtered on here, rightly or wrongly. However what i stumbled upon today on you tube makes that debate on ethics pale into insignificance.
'Snagging'. If you've never seen this practice, type it into you tube and you'll be amazed. I was shocked i didnt realise it even existed and fortunatley it seems confined to the southern states of the US where it looks like an acceptable form of 'fishing'
Its basically a boat style rod, heavy line and huge treble, launched into a river and hauled back untill it snags a fish in what ever part of the body it hits.
Talk about giving anti's and PETA ammunition to beat all anglers with. Its truely disgusting and i hope we never ever see anyone doing it in the UK.

Ever gone to the Tweed in the Autumn at Peebles.....went there about 23 years ago and couldn't believe what we saw. Lead Core lines/ fast sinking lines cast upstream and Rods swiftly brought up......anything and everything was killed.

Hopefully it has improved, as we have not been back since.

Ive even heard of guys in fly fishing comps where foul hooked fish are allowed, fishing 2 heavy doubles on sinking lines & ripping it back (roly poly) at ultra speed thru shoals of fresh stockies.

A bright object dropped into a pool and someone sitting above it in a tree or on the bank, as soon as anything past over the bright object the huge treble was ripped up! very old trick still being used by poachers.

Blocking fish passes then netting the pools is another, dynamite is still used as well, setting a charge off in a pool then scooping out the stunned fish, poision poured in the water is still going on, its just like everything else in life, if there is money to be made folk will go to any lengths to get a share and they dont care how they do it.

Its called pucking over here, large treble with lead molded around it, brought along side of a fish and driven home.

Hmmm, yet another thread where people are highlighting clips which the anti-fishing lobbyists can use as ammunition against us. I'm not saying that wouldn't know about these clips already, but why make it easier for them by pointing them out?

How anyone can do this is beyond me I have had it once were I struck a bit early for a Brown trout I had stalked on the Nymph and Hooked another fish in the Back as it swam past and I felt terrible about that.

Sorry but I don't agree with that at all. Surely by pointing it out on forums such as these it shows that proper anglers respect their quarry and are just as disgusted at these malpraticses as any 'anti' and then maybe target the idiots that do this and not your every day angler.
I know some will try and tar us with the same brush, but does this not show there is a clear distinction ?
The anti brigade are not stupid they know this goes on and pointing it out on here will make no diferance what so ever other than to show 99.99% of anglers are disgusted by it.

I am 100% in agreement with you. The point I was trying (badly) to make is that by pointing out these clips, people will go and view them, and the stats on that clip will show a huge number of views.
This could be misconstrued by making the clip look "popular", even if they are sick.
The best way in my opinion, is to view the clip, and leave a comment on it, to show exactly what your thoughts are. But even then, not everyone will read the comments.
