Default BIG PERSONAL BEST IN DERBYSHIRE?

Hi everyone this season i aim to beat my personal best weight of 9lb 8oz that was a brown trout some years ago. Ive not been into hunting down big fish but this year id like to beat my personal best. could someone suggest any good waters to target big fish in the derbyshire area? ticket prices would be a bonus too. i prefer to fish the larger waters but its not that important really for the task at hand

Plenty of 'big fish' waters down south.
Just keep on going and handing your money over and your bound to strike lucky eventually!

I don't know many waters in Derbyshire that'll gve you a realistic chance of beating that. you should certainly give Lechlade a go. I know that there are some enormous brown trout well over that figure going in soon. I've had them in there up to 16lb and i know there are far bigger fish this year.! (incidentally the 16 pounder fought like a tarpon wiht its leaps!) Failing Lechlade, try the Hampshire waters like Avington or Chalk Springs. The one in my avatar was a chalkies brown of about 18lb that fought for over half an hour. If you do venture south, drop me a PM and i'll gladly show you round the place.

Cheers
Alex

I'd stick with Carsington but depends on how you want to fish it. Dry fly you will not. There are some big browns in there which were put in as fry when the res was built and they have rarely seen the light of day.
Now well grown they are fry feeders and if you persevere on the rudder with big sparklers as you would at Rutland you will hit some.

Good luck.

id be very hard pushed to beat 9lb at carsington there's some nice fish in there but don't think any of em will top 9lb. my best fish there is just over 5lb that was a rainbow. i think the largest brown Ive had was around 4lb at carsington. there isn't that many browns in there now. im not saying that its impossible but Ive fished it a lot and have some cracking sport but asking 9lb at carsingon is just a once in a lifetime fish
