Default A chuckle for ya at my misfortune

So I put a size 8 Booby straight into my cheek at the weekend..all the way past the barb, past the whole gape of the hook. The only saving grace was I was so cold my face was numb.

Wasnt going to bother posting this but I thought it would give you all a chuckle.

I went in to net a small rainbow for my dear father, who at 68 years old asked me to teach him to fly fish. (It was only his 3rd ever fish). Long story short, lets just say he had a bit too much pressure on the fish, the hook pulled loose shot straight at my head, i tilted my head to avoid the whole lot in my face and BINGO, in went the hook and the nice heavy Di line shot past my head just to ensure the hook pulled in past the barb!

we deliberated hostpital for a bit, after realising we couldnt extrapolate it with our fingers before deciding, as my face was already numb from the wind, forcepts, think of nice green meadows, fluffy clouds and 10lb brownies, and YANK!!!

Was drifting loch Watten last summer with Alex (Midlander).... one of those 'slow' days, not helped by bright sun, gusty winds.... and two left handers in a boat together. Alex was casting down the middle... a sideways gust sent his cast across my face...... slap! I howled like a stuck pig for a moment, the pain told me it was all the way in. Being as hard as white dog sh!t and twice as stupid, I proceeded to rip the offending Dabbler straight out. "There, job done" I announced, "lets fish". "Did it hurt mate?" asked Alex, rolling his eyes....like this "Not in the slightest" I replied. "That's because it's barbless" says he.

I did something similar years ago at Toft. Windy day and heavy fly contrived to give me a Pink Dog Nobbler earing! I left it in for most of the day while me and fishing partner decided what to do...no barbless in those days. Eventually got some pliers...stripped off the dressing on the fly, cut the hook at the gape and pulled it back thru as it had come clean thru the lobe.

ouch, if its all the way past the barb sometimes its less painfull to strip the hook cut off the eye and just go right through/round with it and out again. Or if you really can't bear the pain somebody could do the kind thing, a tap on the head with a large priest. Should put you out will the operation takes place.JB

Push down and put pressure on the front of the fly until you are pushing it on offending are,get your heaviest leader and cut about ten inches off and loop around bend of hook and at the same time of putting pressure on front give leader a quick one movement pull,so thats what i have been told???

My old man did that to me once but it caught my ear. All I heard was him saying something about catching one and then he was on the floor in stitches with tears running down his face... how I can laugh now

PS... take the eye off to feed it rhough isn't as easy as you may think when it lodged inside you and you have to strip the hook so it can be pushed all the way through!

Ouch I put a size 8 longshanks Sweeny Tood into my gut when trying to csat into a gale at Linlithgow Loch 25 years ago!!! A lad pushed the barb through shiped the barb of then pulled it out! I was squeeling like a stuck pig!!

For all those who know David Patterson I stuck him in the back of the neck with a Green and Gold 20 years or so ago on guess where? Yip Linlithgow Loch again it was blowing a gale I was punching a Hi-D out I was on the right and I am right handed, caught a gust on the back cast heard a wallop followed by a few choice words in french! He pulled the hook out and we continued. Everytime I pulled out the green and gold after that it was always greated with a growl!!
