Default Leader

As a beginner I just wanted to ask about the position when it comes to leaders.

Am I right in saying that if you just put one straight piece of 4lb leader on the the end of you line, the leader is likely to fall into a pool around the end of the line when caster: i.e it will not turn over/present neatly?

What I need is a leader that gradually gets thinner as it meets the fly?

Advice please.

All sorted: Found an old discussion that's answered all my questions.

Cheers
