Default Early trout West of Ireland

Hi all, will be heading West for easter and looking for recommendations on what rivers/lakes would be best for fly fishing?

There are a lot of guys here that will help you, but you need to be more specific with your location ?
There is a lot of water in the West of Ireland to cover, not sure about West of Ireland, might get some of our American east coast friends to comment on that one

Not sure of destination yet, but probably Mayo. Is it a bit early for Lough Conn?

Corrib and Mask didn't fish well last weekend. I had friends fish both and caught only one fish between them Hopefully by the time you plan to go fishing things might have picked up by then.

If you fancy a smaller and less daunting water than Conn, you could try Callow Loughs. They are next to the N57 Foxford to Swinford road.
A boat can be hired from the house that overlooks the one lough.
Fished there a couple of years ago and had a really nice day with fish to around the pound mark.
There is some free fishing on the lower lough from the bank, but i would strongly recomend the boat.

Default Lough Conn

Lough Conn should have duck fly up at easter,i am watching it closely keep a eye on here,if you get the duck fly right on Conn you will have some of the best fishing of your life.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm guessing that with the cold wintry weather on the way that I would be better forgetting about trout and concentrating on salmon?

I am thinking about Lough Beltra and The Moy. Regarding tackle, I fished Lough Currane a few times and noticed that they all use single handed rods, which seemed odd due to the chance of big sea trout or salmon being probable. I don't have a double handed salmon rod but a 10ft 7wt single, would this get me in trouble with a big springer?

No need for double handed, unless your thinking to fish certain pools on the Moy. I use a 10.5ft 7wt for all my salmon fishing, and have had no problems with spring fish,

First springer was caught on my local on Monday a miserable 3.5lbs, things don't look to good at sea!! Didn't see a pic though, could have been mistaken for a sea trout!
