Default Will I look OK

As I have just started to fly fish most of my gear is new.
New waders
New fly vest.
New rod
New scoop net
New hat etc. etc.

Now! when I go down to the river, should I muck up my gear first.
Get a bit of mud on it – make it look that I am a seasoned fly fisher.
Is there a code of of dress in fly fishing?
There is in carp fishing and birdwatching (twitching)
If you don't use and wear the right gear you are classed as being a dude.
Should I worry about looking like a dude or should I just stick my fingers
up and get on with it.

Cant wait to get out fishing again – its been a long-long winter.

As my fishing buddy always says when he's decked out head to toe in new kit, it doesn't matter if he caught anything or not, the important thing is he looked cool

Don't worry about it, just enjoy the fishing. You have heard the saying "All the gear and no idea". A bit of jealousy I think

Go out there and don't worry what people think, if they have time to look at you then they are not fishing..

Enjoy the season

I've seen pictures of fish caught on a boat on the Sheelin, and the fisherman was wearing a pair of trainers.

Is there?!

I was out yesterday in jeans and a rugby shirt... I did feel a bit underdressed!

Well, I mean, what exactly is your concern here?

Will you look like a total noob? Umm, that would be a big affirmative. Nothing screams newbie like a guy that's dressed head to toe in gear that's all perfectly clean and still showing the creases from being folded up in the package.

Next question: Do you care?

Some guys get off on the label lovin' pose factor of having the latest/greatest gear from top brand names that are known to be expensive and they love it when people notice that they got new toys. They thrive on being noticed and they actually want that attention.

Personally, I don't want to be seen or noticed at all while on the river. So much so that I only wear dark or earth tone colors or camo. I'm not the slightest bit interested in what other anglers think just by looking at my gear. I don't go out of my way to make it look old or keep it looking new.
