Default Chalk Springs & Arlington fly choice

My first post of 2010! I'm going through past topics trying to find some answers but I'm not really finding anything helpful, or at least not yet.

I'm trying to build up a bit of a fly collection to suit both Chalk Springs and Arlington. I'm not after a slanging match on CS by the way!!

Starting with CS I've seen on their site that they have suggested the usual damsels, hares ears, buzzers etc but are there any particular types ones that you would recommend that have worked in the past for you?

When it comes to Arlington I'm pretty sure that I can use a lot of my existing patterns which have been very effective when fising in Wales on the Teifi, Llyn Berwyn and Teifi pools etc so don't think I'm overly worried about here but any suggestions would be grately appreciated.

I've been given a selection of flies from a local shop which I've been told would be 'effective'. I'm not sure whether it's catchin fish or scaring elephants but will give them a go too - cats whiskers etc.

Also, my leader stocks consist of a range up to 5lb. I'm not sure if this will be adequate for CS.

only fished CS a couple of times but both times i got my limit and a double. the method, i cast a weighted damsel/ long tailed nymph and let it land on a patch of open lake bed. when a fish swam past i gave it a twitch and they nailed it on the bottom. not strictly fly fishing but it worked a treat. got bored after a while and fished traditionally but to no avail. switched back to the twitched method and bang, limit reached. nice place but by god it gets busy. normal advice is fish early and late. good luck. jon.

I'm going to do half days and be there for about 8 for an 8.30 start. From other topics that seems the best option.

I have a few of those in my box already so that sounds good. It's my first time fishing in just about 7 years so don't think I'm likely to land anyting but a few twitches would make my day.

Last time I fished C.S. I couldn`t go wrong with a Black Nomad with a red head. Don`t think the colour of the head made a great difference but my mate was fishing a White and had nothing, when he changed to a Black one, fish on.

I'm off to CS tomorow as he weather here is 'lovely' and original plans were scuppered. Hoping I haven't forgotten too much over the years. Remembered how to tie a few flies though so that's a good start

a nice 3 pounder. Put up a nice fight which was nice after missing so many. 10 years off leaves you very rusty from all aspects

I was surprised after the abuse the site has given CS that there were only 5 people on the lakes at 8.30 and then by 11 it was down to three. I left at 1 and had been the only one there for a good half hour. Maybe a one off but was quite nice
