Little encouragement needed 'round here. This from the Rutland Mercury, albeit back in 2007:
Sheep rustlers strike
Published Date: 28 March 2007
HUNDREDS of sheep have been stolen from a farm.
The sheep rustling took place sometime between Wednesday, February 7, and Tuesday, March 13, from a farm in Ridlington when the animals were in the care of someone else.
Police said 250 sheep had been stolen from farm fields surrounding the farm and the thieves may have had dogs.
Depending on whether they were lambs or adult sheep the stolen animals could be worth £20,000. They were a breed called Lleyn sheep which have white faces and fleeces.
Robert Burns, of the National Farmers Union, said it was the first case of sheep-rustling for several years in Rutland.
He said: "It is not something we hear of on a regular basis, the last sheep rustling was about five or six years ago.
"But it is lambing season and farmers being stretched to their limits it may be difficult to keep up with exact numbers of sheep.
"They would have needed a large cattle truck to drive them away – about a 40 ton vehicle – or they made several visits."
Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
PC John Clift-Hill said: "People may have seen sheep being herded into a transporter and thought nothing of it. But if anyone was in the Ridlington area between these dates and saw people moving sheep towards a large lorry or truck we need to hear from them."
Anyone with information should contact PC Clift-Hill on .
