Default Greetings, I am a new member

Greetings. My name is Andre, and I have lurked on this forum for a while now, and have decided to join. There seems to be some interesting and productive dialogue, which I would be keen to get involved with.
But, first a little introduction....
I live in Cape Town, in the Western Cape of South Africa, and those that have visited here, will admit that it is one of the worlds most beutiful cities. . My home waters, are situated in the mountains of the Cape, in spectacular pristine freestone streams that hold a healthy population of wild brown and rainbow trout. Our rivers fall intio the catchment of the Limietberg nature reserve, which forms a good part of the Cape fold mountain, World heritage site.
My fly fishing comprises various techniques from dry fly to shallow and deep nymphing, both with light tackle and long leaders. I am a registered field guide, and operate as a part time fly fishing guide in the Western Cape and Orange River, where we fish for our indiginous yellowfish.
I have never fished in the UK, but plan to do so one day. I look forward to some stimulating discussion on the forum.

Welcome aboard. What about some pictures of your fish and flies? I am sure they would go down well on here.

welcome Andreb,
i've heard good things about yellowfish fishing in SA. are there any major differences in the tactics you use for them compared to trout ?

Hi gardenolive, there is a fundamental difference in the way we fish for them, yes. If you look at the behaviour of the fish, Yellowfish have similarities to the way greyling behave, in that they mailny shoal on the bottom, and move around. Trout tend to hold in lies. The yellowfish move through the rapids in the warmer months, and during these time, are caught successfully in moving water, using Czech nymphing techniques. They can be taken using more conventional tactics like dry fly, and indicator nymphing, but for best results, a short line nymphing technique, a three fly dropper rig with a control fly, is prefferred by most anglers. During the colder winter months, they retreat back into the larger pools, and can be taken very effectively on small dry flies.
