Default Izaak Walton

I've been reading The Compleat Angler, Izaak Walton & Charles Cotton, very interesting, only time I've heard of Chub being eaten, I wouldn't have thought they would have been edible! I know it was a long time ago, and times change, has anyone out there fished the Dove, stupid question! of course someone has, any information on day tickets, venues, accomodation, anything... would be most welcome, it looks a beautiful river:-

HI Pete.

Harder time back then Cotton wool and bones spring to mind if you have ever eaten a chub

You can fish at Dovedale but you need to stay in the Izaak Walton Hotel to obtain a permit. A farm above Hartington also used to sell tickets for a short stretch, other than this there are no day tickets on the trout section of the river.

Default Dove

The Dove above the Churnet entering is the best fishing. The IW hotel has some water in Dovedale but only one bank and difficult to fish on the fly.As someone said , you have to stay there and you will need to sell the kids to buy a round of drinks! Most of the water is in clubs or syndicate but Leek and District , Derby Railway are relatively easy to join (1-2 year waiting list).
Once the Churner comes in , the Dove cease to be a limestone river and becomes predominantly rain fed
pm me for more info
regards
robh

Thanks a million robh, (1-2 year waiting list) that could be a long wait for an 80 year old, but thanks all the same, with a bit of luck I will, thanks to a very kind forum member, be fishing the Dove when the weather warms up a bit, hopefully!!???....
