Default Certificate in Coaching Angling

Has anyone on here gained the L1CCA & L2CCA?

Angling Development Board Angling coaching

Anyone else know much about it? Opinions? Versus GAIC?

Hi Stewart

I took the L2CCA last year. As you say, it's a coaching certificate, and is distinct from GAIC, which concerns how to cast and demonstrate casting faults. The L2 course contains several elements that you need to practise as a licensed coach, such as lesson planning, risk assessments, first aid certification, child protection training and an advanced CRB check. On qualification you also get insurance cover to the tune of £5 million - though it's hard to imagine what would need to happen before you would exceed this amount. It's hard work, and involves a lot of paper work and preparation between classes, but I really enjoyed the course and learned loads.

If you haven't done any coaching beforehand, you'd need to take the L1 course first.

Hope that helps
Mal

Seeker, it's important to distinguish between casting and coaching. It's perfectly possible to be a good caster, but not have a clue about how to teach someone else to do the same (and of course, the opposite could also be true). The L2CCA courses teach you how to coach people. They also provide you with the appropriate training and skills to cope with problematic situations that you might encounter as a coach. Although the courses are geared towards anglers, they are not specifically for fly fishers - most of the people on the courses are coarse anglers.

If you want to learn how to cast sufficiently well to teach others, you need to go down the GAIC/APGAI and/or AAPGAI route. If you want to learn how to be an effective coach, then I reckon you can do a lot worse than CCA.

Mal,

lesson planning, risk assessments, first aid certification, child protection training and an advanced CRB check and insurance are included in some casting qualifications, Sgaic for example, possibly others,
is there an extra coaching part to the L2?
