I took the L2CCA last year. As you say, it's a coaching certificate, and is distinct from GAIC, which concerns how to cast and demonstrate casting faults. The L2 course contains several elements that you need to practise as a licensed coach, such as lesson planning, risk assessments, first aid certification, child protection training and an advanced CRB check. On qualification you also get insurance cover to the tune of £5 million - though it's hard to imagine what would need to happen before you would exceed this amount. It's hard work, and involves a lot of paper work and preparation between classes, but I really enjoyed the course and learned loads.
If you haven't done any coaching beforehand, you'd need to take the L1 course first.
Hope that helps
