Default Usk best flies in April

Hello Usk fisherman.
A couple of us still water fishermen have booked three days on the Usk (Dinas & Abercynrig; Cilwych; Glanusk Estate) at the end of April. Its our first time on these gentle waters and we are really looking forward to it. So if we had to restrict ourselves to three flies what would they be?

Best guess:

1) CDC olive F fly
2) PTN
3) GRHE
Size 16 – 14?

Well I'm not the most experienced but...in my opinion (seeing as you probably already have the flies you mentioned, I thought I could offer some alternatives for you for end of April...

1. Usk Naylor (see Gwent Angling Website for how to tie)
2. Stone Fly
3. Iron Blue

Thanks Red, I just watched a vidio of the tying of the Usk Naylor. Looks like I should have a go at this interesting little fly, bit like a black spider.

You'll find lots of answers on the river Usk Thread! But your going to fish while the Grannom are about! A baby sun fly, or any other fly with a hares ear body; also a PTN and a PT-dry and on the GRHE put a small yellow tag!

That's enough secrets to give away! But I think you've got it pretty much covered as far as flies are concerned, all emerger patterns are worth a try!
