Default GAIA or APGAI

HI

Newbie here, I am looking to get some more instruction to try and advance my abilities with the fly rod. I was wondering what the difference was between GAIA and APGAI instructors ?

Herein lies a common misconception - let me explain.

GAIA is the Game Angling Instructors Association and APGAI (Advanced Professional Game Angling Instructor) is an award owned entirely by GAIA. It is presently GAIA's highest award.

There is also the entirely seperate organisation AAPGAI - the Association of Advanced Professional Game Angling Instructors - which was formed in 2003 as the result of a split from GAIA.

I've been taught by instructors from both organisations and IMO would say it's more about the person giving the instruction. Some chaps whilst very competent casters I didn’t feel gave particular good instruction, yet others have been superb.

Really don't understand the Harry Hill comment - as far as I'm aware he's, in some peoples estimation, a comedian, and is neither GAIA or AAPGAI qualified.

I have numerous friends and aquaintances who have qualified through either GAIA and or AAPGAI and I am confident that you will receive professional tuition whichever you chose.

A Plague on Both their Houses -

Frankly until they get OFSTED involved , nobody - other than by word of mouth can tell if an either way qualified Instructor is actually worth a ram !

And if anybody had the sense they might tell all ( is it 6 ) organisations currently passing out 'Instructors' that it is high time they united and made sense of it nationally for one and all .

Which , of course doesn't help your man who started this thread .

Ask around and if you find somebody you trust who had a good experience from a Coach - go there and don't worry too much about the letters - 10 years ago there weren't many !

Best wishes and good luck

Steve Parton

Thanks guys

So both are equally qualified so its really down to the instructors style and delivery of the lesson content. So its find one whos teaching style suits and stick with him.

Thanks for clearing that up

Donald
