Default The Fly Fishing Show - Newark

Please someone tell me I'm wrong?

But I have learned from people who visited this show last year that it's a complete fiasco. First of all the parking is absolutely atrocious with odd characters walking around threatening to clamp you if you are in the wrong place. Also there is always a huge queue of traffic trying to get into the "park".

And you have to walk 1/2 a mile to get into the hall.

The charge of £10.00 is nothing far short of legalised extortion! That's like my local Asda charging an entry fee.

Some of the best tackle companies are not exhibiting.

The food is ridiculously expensive.

I have been thinking of having a pleasant day out, but from what I have heard, I'll stay at home.

Ron sounds like Chstsworth Angling Fair that started going like that and now it's gone. Traders could not afford the inflated stall rents.

I have talked to a few regulars (talkers and stall holders) from the autumn fly fair to see if they are there, but say that they have had problems with the guy orginising it in the past and give him and his ventures a wide berth. Its only up the road from me, but I must admit I have been put off by the negative publicity.... only the pirate's presence is any kind of draw.

Mind you for the sake of forum members and traders exhibiting there I hope for them it is a great success.

You are wrong!!

Parking is easy and pretty much next to the hall, so no 1/2 mile walks.

Your right not all the "BEST" tackle companies are there but then I've been to other shows and they are not all at those shows either.

The food isn’t exactly cheap but then when have you ever been to one of these fairs and the food is reasonably priced.

And finally £10 for a day out, see some of the demonstrations, chat to some very talented fly tyers and have a look at some of the tackle that is there. Not to bad when you compare it to other activities you could pay to do on the weekend, have you seen how much it costs to go to the cinema recently?

I was working on a trade stand at the shooting fair at the showground last weekend and I must admit that the organisers were totally useless - from a trade point of view. Stall space was charged at £700 per bay and heating was promised. Heating was on for around 15 hours total over the three days so our selling area was freezing, keeping customers away, constant pleading with the event organiser John ******* produced an even colder shoulder! Speaking to punters, I was told that the parking was a disorganised fiasco too.
Will this keep me away from visiting this show?
NO!
I cant help it your honour!
Im addicted to fishing! And if the show is poor I'l still no doubt have a great time chatting to other addicts.

It's really strange how people have different experiances. I went to the show on the saturday and drove straight in no problems, followed the directions of the various chaps waving there arms at you like they do at these things and parked no hassle at all.

Now the queue to get in that’s another story, but then it is a very popular show, I went and got the bacon rolls whilst the missus waited in the queue, happy days!!

I guess some of us have more patients than others

It's very much like buying a rod, Ron.

Always best to try it out for yourself before making a decision

Ask ten people to test a rod and they will all probably describe the action slightly differently - much the same with shows I guess.

Last year was a bit rough for getting in and parking but there were two shows on at the same time, this year only one so should not have any trouble?

I went last year, apart from the confusion with the que, because no one had differentiated between the Gun show and the Fly fair, it was a canny day out.
Tyers row was good and the casting demo's.
Some good stalls as well.

I went last year and yes, I was queuing on the dual carriageway to get in and I thought I was early. Parking was no great issue, albeit a little haphazard!

The previous comment about queuing to enter the show - yes, there was the danger that you could have joined the very long queue for the gun show in the mistaken belief you were waiting to get into the Fly Fair.

The show itself? By comparison to the BFFI I thought it was very poor and in as much as some major exhibitors will not be there this year ....
