Default tappered leaders

A bit of a novice question for you pro fly fishermen
When fishing with a friend who also has little knowledge and is new also but knows more than myself,he suggested using tappered leaders attactched to our fly lines. So would this be a better set up instead of tying on 9-10foot lengths of flouro?
Also if i attach a tappered leader to my braided loop do i tie the thinner end onto the loop? and attach a tippet onto the end of the thicker part of the tappered leader.
Sorry for being a complete noob
Tony

Tie the thicker end of the tapered leader to th fly line loop ith a perfection loop.

Tie tippet material to the thinner end if you prefer, saves you cutting into your leader to change flies.

as for the benefit, depends what you are using fly wise and what type of fishing. If you are pulling lures id stick to a length of level line its cheaper. for dries or more delicate flies they should see you getting better turnover.

You tie the thick end of the tapered leader to the loop at the end of the fly line. Tie the fly to the thin end. Tapered leaders are to assist "turn over" when casting.

If you want to extend the leader tie another length of mono onto the thin end, the extension should be the same strength or less than the end of the leader to maintain the taper. Use a 3 turn water knot or double grinner.

Hope this helps.

Attach the thicker end of the tapered leader to the loop on your flyline and the tippet to the thinner end. the reason for the tapered leader is that it should turn over better than using a long length of straight leeder.

Welcome to the forum.

Alan

You guys beat me to it I must take typing lessons.

Dear Stroker ,

It is always a better idea to needle knot the thick end of your tapered leader into the tip of the flyline - a much neater and cleaner solution ! Also less to go wrong and much better presentation !

Get somebody to show you how and use it instead of braided loops in all tapered leader situations .

Stev Parton ( also I make braided loops - so this one technically, is against myself ! )
