Default The season ahead, and sharing of tactics

Hi all, I thought id start a thread on a topic i think a lot of people should find not just interesting but helpful. On here id like if some people could share some thoughts of what tactics and information could help us all during the new exciting season thats ahead of us. I myself havent been fishing yet this year but will be shortly and will be participating in troutmasters fish-off at my local stillwater. Im sure i'll start with my blue cortland intermediate fly line on my rimfly reel and daiwa whisker fly rod that ive had for around 10+ years. I'll finish by stating at the bottom that ive just launched my fishing fly website, on here you'll find a prolific site with loads of great patterns tied by myself. Feel free to take a look.

Welcome to the forum, There's plenty of Scots on the forum to compare notes on different fisheries.

Just visited your site, and my Norton anti-virus went ballistic!
According to Norton Safe web, there are 56 threats on that site ! These include viruses, and 1 phishing alert.
Think I'll keep away thanks.
Cheers,
Gary.

most people are quite glad to tell you of their fish they caught and were and what with , but i find it allot harder to get to he nitty gritty and find out leader settings and what tippets etc!!! and these i find are more important that the flee as i think if the want it they will have it as size and presentation is much more important .

i will look forward to seeing if this thread takes off,,, which i hope it does ,as it could be a very good one and of great interest to myself and many others who are just getting to grips with the importance of leader set up and tippet used as well as presentation and conduct in and around the water.

Hi, thanks to all for posts, Have had a look at the alerts you mentioned. There for 741.com the web hosts i use, not from my actual website and my site is only days old and done from pictures i have taken myself from my laptop which has antivirus software and is virus free. Anyway besides all this i hope we can all discuss some more points of view with regards to the new season ahead. Maybe we could discuss our starting points with regards to what we will tackle up with first of all at bankside on any given water but for this time of year. Anyways thank for the posts guys, and hope to discuss issues and have some valuable information passing around us all.

I think this could be a great thread, especially for a beginner like me !
So for, I have only fished smallish stillwaters, and use a 9' #6 rod, floating line (to start) and a 12 - 15' leader. As for what I tie on, I always ask for advice when I get there, and usually either a cats whisker, or if I am using a couple, I use a GRHE on the point, and a buzzer on the dropper.
Then, when I don't catch anything, go through everything else in the box !!
Cheers,
Gary
