Default Sheelin 15 lb 2 oz trout .

OK our season started on monday . I got home to find an email from a mate asking did I want to see a picture of a proper trout . I said ok lets have it .....
I was not allowed to even talk of this fish on monday but have been given the ok now to post the news on here as the story is "out there"
I am still not to post the pic as yet but will do so as soon as I am told I can , she is a well conditioned cracking looking fish .
It was not caught on the flies but fell to one of the pike boys fishing the rubber stuff . Same fella that had one of the 8 lb fish from Sheelin last year that I posted on here , Richard Gibson .
It is great to know that the lough holds fish like this and makes you wonder what else is in there .
This fish is not a ferox trout as there are not any in Lough Sheelin , it is a standard brown trout .
I know this is not fly fishing but just thought as it was a trout people might like to know about it .
Sorry I can't post the pic yet but will do so as soon as I can .........

Cheers

Nice to know they are still in there at that size. I'm assuming it was returned?

Yes it is great news .

Sorry I should have said , yes the fish was put back . Fish care is very high with these boys . Padded boat floor etc .....
She was put into a pike sack , these are used to let fish rest a while , they allow the fish to breathe and swim about if they want to but not get away and go belly up . Anyway the fish was put into one of these and very slowly the boat made its was into kilnahard with the fish being kept upright and facing into the flow at all times . The fisheries were then called , came ond took some pics on Richard's camera and them the fish was returned safe and sound and went off fine

Good to know they are in their. But it would be even better to find out that the fish was returned back safely to Sheelin, especially at this time of year after spawning during such a harsh winter

This is probably me being simple but why all the secrecy about such a great fish, and if so, why is it ok for details to come out later.
Sorry if this is obvious to most folk.

I think it is because the fisheries and Richard would like to be the first to post the pics anywhere and I have a feeling it will be going in the news papers . A 12 lb Sheelin fish last year made the papers so I would think this will .
It is not my place to go splashing the pic about until the fella who caught the fish has done what he wants .
I was asked not to post it YET and I will respect that wish . I will post the pic as soon as I can .....

can you just imagine that beauty feeding in a slick in front of you during a rise .....drool ! congrats to the captors.
the pike guys are great when it comes to fish care and C&R.more and more fly fishers are returning the bigger fish which cant be a bad thing.
now if someone could just arrange a little sunshine and some hatching flies i'd be a happy camper. i'm putting the boat on sheelin this saturday and optimism is beating experience cause im still hoping i might see some buzzer action.

----i just remembered a few years ago i was letting a few non fishing friends have a go catching jack pike from the shore in chambers bay. it was the day before the season opened (was down getting the boat ready) after catching a good few jacks on wobbled smelt it was the turn of an absolute beginner, never held a fishing rod before. first cast smelt hits the water, he says he thinks he has a bite, i nod sagely and ignore him telling him its the bottom.he repeats "i think ive a bite". i roll my eyes and tell him to tighten into it and set the hook, expecting another jack.anyway said jack turned out to be a cracking brownie of about 8lb (guestimate). the fish was unhooked (i use barbless/crushed barb for everything, revived in the water and swam strongly away).friend turns to me saying this fishing lark is good fun and could he please have a bigger one next cast ! lol
tight lines guys (hope the story didnt bore you too much)
