Trout Of Doubt is on a distinguished road
Default Associations, trusts and societies

For a while I have thought I should get round to putting a little of my wallet's contents behind one of the various associations, trusts, societies etc that work hard for fly fishers.
But which to choose and why?

... bit of a heavy one for a late lunchtime post ... probably sent most people back to work that question?

Local and community based is always a good way to start, as you can see the results and keep an eye on things. There's bound to be some group near you that needs / welcomes some help with a river scheme or something similar, although in my experience the money is one thing but help in terms of man hours / organisation is also very valuable.

If you can't find anything to spend ypur money on, PM me and I'll tell you what we're trying to fund at present and see if it suits you!

I'm obviously going to say the Wild Trout Trust. Whilst they don't directly look after anglers themselves, the WTT does look after the streams, rivers and fish within them. Also with the urban river projects and school education projects we are creating new generations of custodians of our waterways.

If you can spare £3 per month (!) then do think about us. Alternatively, if there is a particular project that you'd like to support then you can specify a donation to be made to a particular fund:

e.g. Orkney Seatrout project, South Coast Sea Trout project, A particular chapter of Trout in the town (Wandle, Cray, Goyt, Don, Erewash, Glazert, East Lancs Colne), East Lincolnshire chalk streams, East Anglian Sea trout project, Cinderella chalkstreams, Wild trout Wales etc.

We get an awful lot done (around 50 advisory visits and reports at no charge to recipient clubs/landowners per year, approximately 10 practical visits (including materials and staff time up to £1800), talks, demonstrations, publication of guidance manuals, development and delivery of schools educational schemes, plus urban community events and free angling coaching for youngsters in urban areas) with just 4 full time staff and two part time staff members.

We are very active.
