Default New fly lines

hi all.
Iv just bought some new lines from the Pitsford Pirate and have read the instructions for fitting the line to my reel (using a kitchen roll tube etc). anyway, it just got me thinking about how in the past by rolling the line onto the floor the simply reeling it on, iv probably been putting twists into my new lines and blaming the innocent manufacturer for my simpleton failings.
Has anyone any other tips for spooling the line onto a reel??

thanks all

Rob

Pitsford Pirate knows what he's talking about so that's the way to go. having said that, my way is to have a swivel on a post at the bottom of my garden, then I unroll the line, not just drop it off the spool, down the garden, attach it to the swivel, then attach the reel end to my reel and, with the line taught, I wind it on to my reel, never had a problem, you do need a decent length of garden, Cheers.......

For just the cost of postage I seem to have quite a collection of spooling centres specifically designed for this job - they never caught on !

PM me I'll send you one !

Best wishes

That's very kind of Steve to help you out Rob, true gent.

I would always recommend keeping hold of an empty spool from a boxed line or getting hold of one, however failing that, an empty kitchen roll tube, smooth/marble rolling pin or rolled up magazine will do the trick, as long as the line is allowed to turn freely.

Absolutely never spool a line from the floor, recipe for disaster i.e. kinks & twists.

Tightlines!

Stewart.

if you,re Doing it on youre own use a pen/pencil push it through the centre then put the point under you,re boot/shoe laces on the right and the other side under you,re left. it,s then held perfectly between you,re two feet for spooling it on to you,re reel.
