Post need a spot to fish near Bermingham to avoid M6 traffic

I will be on a quick trip to the UK for a weekend fly fishing, from talking to a few people and they inform me that the M6 during the day can be a nightmare with traffic, I was wondering if there are any nice rainbow lakes close to the M6 north of Bermingham so that if our timing is wrong we can detour to maximise our fishing time and reduce time in traffic.

If you take the M6 (Toll) there are never any queues.

I don't know how it's fishing but Gailey trout fishery, famous for pike and zander , is only 1/2 mile from A5/M6 junction 12.

Cound fishery, up the M54 (a better road for the Holyhead ferry BTW), is worth checking out, a Forum search will find several threads, it was/is stocked with arctic charr as well as trout.

I thought Cound was a bit off the M54, it's off the Cressage/Bridgenorth road from Shrewsbury. If you get on the M54 travelling from Ireland you've gone too far.

Got a feeling that Cound may have shut.

Don't rate Gailey very much but it is convenient for that route. Ought to be really good but something is missing, somehow. Most of the big Pike are caught by Dead Baiters.

Cound is definitely shut. Ellerdine Lakes at the back of Telford are fishing well, so is Seighford just outside Stafford. Depends when you are coming as Blithfield Reservoir is also a possibility.
Hope this is of some help

cound is now prince albert i think, but does any method for trout???
I agree with seighford and ellerdine. Patshull park near wolverhampton is worth a go, bank and boat both fishing well. I'll be there tomorrow trying my new perch immitation, available for viewing in tying forum

A55 Holyhead to Chester. Turn right for A483 (Wrexham by-pass) then A5 to Shrewsbury and M54 Telford for M6 (or M6 Toll) South.

This is the best, and by far the safest option. M56/M6 South fraught by accidents, fog, heartache and tragedy.

Shame if Cound has closed. Hadleigh used to post results here. I thought the fishery wasn't far from the M54 but hadn't ever fished it.

Don't where it is you are actually travelling to when you say you're worried about the famous car park otherwise known as the M6 through Birmingham area but the M6 Toll is the answer to that one - went up to £5 mind you at the start of this month. I use it most days and have a tag, but luckily can claim it back.

Of the venues mentioned I would say Ellerdine if coming via M54, Seighford (Stafford) if coming down M6. Gailey is right by J12 of the M6, next junction south of Stafford, so arguably the most convenient if thats the priority.
