It's a fantasy figure, made up in the add department.and bears no relationship to the price you eventually pay
In a discount shop,it's designed to make you think your getting a Sooper Dooper bargain.

That's funny Jim, I was about to say "it is a totally fictitious number that no-one actually pays "

We all do actually pay 'RRP' every day Charlie... in the instances when the 'RRP' is a sensible guide 'recommended' to retailers, by manufacturers/wholesalers, as to what a product will fetch, when in demand.

The rrp is usually genuine enough in big retail companies etc but it seems to be used as a marketing tool for some companies who purposely set high rrps on their own products which they retail themselves and then sell them at 50% off or something, just look at sportsdirect or even Airflo rods as examples (not having a dig at either of these companies just my observation and opinion as a consumer).

Yeah, my comment was slightly tongue in cheek but also note that when you go to the supermarket you very often see all sorts of items that show a "normal" price with a line through it and a new terrific offer.

It has become commonplace, not just in the tackle sector to show prices which are some way out of whack with what I would call "Actual Selling Price" or ASP.

My point, therefore, is that RRP or List Price is largely irrelevant.

FT definition is that it's "A price that the producer or wholesaler (a seller that sells to businesses rather than to the public) of a product suggests that it should be sold for in shops. " So we should be able to ask (say) Flextec for their communications to (say) Tackle Discounts which show the RRP.....
Having said that, I've bought stuff from TackleDiscounts (I have 3 spring creek rods) and found them excellent value - but I've always ignored the RRP figures and gone on others' reviews at first and then my own experience. Personally I'd be happier buying from them if they stopped using such silly RRP indications!

Hello everyone, at Flextec, we have taken on board the many posts about RRP prices on our site being "too far wide of the prices they actually sell for".

This was started some years ago at the launch of the brand and seemed to be a fair thing to do, as the rods are made in many of the same factories using the same blanks as rods that do sell for these RRP's.

However, taking this on board, we have amended our RRP prices on the site Home in a move to be a little more transparent.

We really do stand by our claims however that these are the best value rods on the market today.

I hope this goes some way to show our willingness to change, and give our customers what they want.

We always want to be seen as an open company with an open relationship with our customers, something which in this business is quite rare.

Regards
Andrew

Hi Andrew, I think you are being very open which is refreshing.

Just so I understand are Tackle Discounts and Flextec essentially the same company, one being retail and the other the manufacturer ?

Yes this is true, we are partner companies working very closely together.

Flextec have 40 years of manufacturing history and so of course know where everything comes from.

Hence the special relationship the two companies have forged, allowing us to sell their products.

Regards
Andrew
