Question 0-3 wt braided loops.

Hi. Can any one tell me where i might get braided loops to suit a 3 weight Sage quiet taper fly line. This line is super slim im worried that normal braided loops might be that slight bit to big. Im toying with idea of makin a loop with the fly line itself or makin a loop from its core but i have never done this before and dont want to ruin my line. Any suggestions???

Hi bill d

Consider the Grays Loop, it is very good for light fly line work.

Fly Fishing Knots ..... Grays Loop

Best wishes
Mike

Forget loops - needle knot a tapered leader in !
Strip , stitch and whip will work but once again add weight where it isn't needed .
Trust me I'm the bloke who makes 250,000- loops a year !

Rod Dibble explained how to do the loop from the core to me last year, I've since done it on four lines including a fine #3:

Dip the end of the line in some Acetone, bought from a pharmacy for a few pounds but watch this stuff as it's not nice (keep away from children etc). I do a little pen mark about 1/2 to 3/4 s of an inch depending on the loop size you'd like so you can judge when dipping in the bottle.

Carefully pull off the casing using line snips, the action is more pulling than cutting so as not to damage the core.

I open my tying vice jaws, wrap the line in a tear off strip of kitchen towel and hold loosely but firmly in my tying vice.

Fold over line to create your loop and a small spot of superglue to fix in place before binding on with thread and varnishing.

I whip on a loose loop of mono of about 15lb using about 3-4 inches of nylon to make the loop, It turns over fine if your using normal leaders and passes in and out of the tip eye better than a braided loop.
