Default Holiday ideas...

Just wondering if anyone had any gem ideas for a summer hoiday for myself and my non-fishing wife, ideally beach based with a special enough place to stay to let me get away with popping off fishing! Was thinking along the lines of Barbados/Seychelles, has anyone got personal experience of particularly good resorts or lodges or places that I wouldn't have even thought of

Thanks in advance for any advice

Madeira? Some cracking offshore fishing there?

Florida somewhere, those Tarpon have got me interested...

Alternatively, if you're just after some sun, a few drinks and a relax, try a bonefish resort. the water's beautiful, the fishing spectacular, and even non fishers can get involved. We went to Deep water cay, and while the flats were beyond the ladies, they had cracking fun trolling and casting for barracuda and sharks. my sister had a huge barracuda and she was grinning about it for weeks.!

Cheers BB,

I think offshore would be pushing my luck a bit, my wife has unpleasant memories of trolling around the south pacific of tonga, with me grinning like a cheshire cat and her failing completely to understand the joy of big game fishing!

Deep water cay looks great though, I will look into that, ever been anywhere with flats within walking distance of the resorts at all?

Heading to Lechlade for my first trip of 2010 this Friday-hopefully water wont be too murky after this rain.

there's plenty of wading on the flats at DWC, you can see the bonefish tailing from your beachside villa... Just be warned, it IS a fishing lodge, and theres very little apart from swimming, walking, and sunning to do apart from fishing. Trust me though, get the good wife out on a skiff for a few hours, after barracuda, and she'll catch LOTS of fish in short order.

There's nothing nicer than sittting on the DWC dock at night, listening to the rigging of the sailing ships, looking at the spotlight beaming into the water, and enjoying a last G and T. (while keeping a close eye on the end of the shark rod you've accidentally put out)... When i was there, i was less than 5 feet from 2 manta rays on that dock. the most amazing sight.

Don't think Barbados has anything in the way of flats fishing with a fly rod due to the reefs. You do have other fishing including the big game fish boats etc However if you are thinking of going there and want to stay in a Villa rather than a hotel you could try my sisters place.

If you're looking at Seychelles you probably want to check out alphonse and desroches, most of the really good spots are by the outer islands, farhquar etc.

When we went we chartered a boat, maybe not what your wife is looking for though still the crew were all super friendly and I think it's quite a small company so maybe they'd help you out anyway,

Maybe send them an email or something, Neptune Warrior - Motorised Catamaran Charters - Seychelles Islands Live Aboard - Blue Water, Saltwater Fishing - Farquhar, Saint Joseph, Coetivy - Fly Fishing, Jigging, Popping, Drop Shot, Bonefishing - Bonefish, Dog Tooth Tuna, Marlin, Sailfish, Ba

Amazing fishing out there though, and the wife's bound to be distracted by the promise of a day at the spa!

Have a look at cuba, especially the cayos, all inclusive resorts, sun, sea, lots of sand and last, but not least, beach fishing! no need to go anywhere, unless of course you want too. but lots of opportunities to cast a fly.
