Default Stroft for Buzzers?

Alright guys,
Iv been fishing dries with stroft now for quite some time, it just works for me. However when buzzer or nymph fishing i always use flourocarbon (whatever one i feel suits conditions best, i dont really have a preferrance). This is mainly because iv been told by a few anglers that stroft is too "limp" for this task. Can anyone back up or rubbish this theory!!??
Cheers for reading
Scotty

Flourocarbon's bad for the environment, it hangs around longer than Bruce Forsyth, use Drennan subsurface and the money you save you can donate to SSPCA.

Limpness of stroft is a function of diameter ,use a thicker one and the limpness is lessend.
I use a variety of Stroft for a lot of my fishing ,its a funny one some people like it some hate it ,it has a lot of fans Hugh at O'Riellys has been selling it for around ten years now !

Stroft is good for subsurface buzzer fishing (particularly on a lighter setup than your "standard" 7-weight stillwater outfit). The 0.14 diameter stuff on a 5-weight works well for me (precisely because it is a little bit limp - but has really good knot strength). However, for slightly more durability and for long leadered loch-style buzzer fishing, something like 6lb G3 is probably hard to beat.

Both myself and my bro have experienced some "refusals" to dry flies fished on Stroft on stillwaters. For me this situation was improved when I used rio powerflex instead. Not sure what Ian's current preferred dry fly leader material is...

Surely its only bad for the environment if its disposed of irresponsibly? All my scrap flouro gets brought home, put in an empty plastic bottle, lid on, and gets recycled with the rest of the household plastic waste. Drennan subsurface is good material and i used to use it exclusivley, untill i was introduced to flouro and it almost doubled my catch rate for nymph/buzzer tactics. Not beratimg drennan at all, just my experience.

There is always a danger in rubbishing someone elses theory! We all have preferences but I use stroft for all of my dry fly and some buzzer fishing but mainly small 16 and 18 buzzers which seem to be the norm on my local still water ( I catch more fish on these sizes) I use flourocarbon on larger buzzers 10s-14s as stroft seems a bit limp for the task.

These are my preferences.

Good Luck

LOL!!!! What can i say, Its a fact. Like i clearly stated, my experience. If you catch fish exclusivley on one type of leader material no matter what the conditions, all the best to you. your a better angler than me

And yes, i will have some of your magic beans, they seem to be good!

Limp means more life......this is good....

Also fluoro can actually be a disadvantage if the bulk of the fish are high in the water.

Well said on both counts.
