Sounds like Bullshit. It's a competitive market at the moment and a lot of companies are willing to talk on price.

If they're not, shop elsewhere.

As has been mentioned, Grommit is hard to beat on here.

Hi Pete,

It may not be restrictive pricing by the manufacturer.

Often, if it is a new, eagerly awaited product, retailers are not prepared to offer discount as they know that demand will outstrip supply for a while.

They may well tell us that it's because of the manufacturers policies but it may be for their own reasons.

Having said that, I can think of (at least) one major US brand who don't allow discounting (alledgedly) except on discontinued lines.

No I don't think it's BS.
Most of the top ranges (Winston, Sage, Loomis, etc) have a RRP and the dealers have to stick to that RRP, unless the line is discontinued (or are no longer dealers, or going out of business) in which case they can offer what they like.
It makes more sense in the US (for US goods) as the RRP over here bears no real relation to the US price. Normally the importer/distributor sets the price if it's an imported item.
By allowing a retailer to charge what he likes, it forces other retailers to drop their prices as well to get sales incurring loss of profit.

.
This has never been my experience, whether it's a new brand or older.

Maybe I am shopping in the right places.

Default I,m not imagining it !

Because I had searched for some time the advice of "Try elsewhere" was a bit wasted.

I had a similar experience with a Panasonic TV some time ago and only got a big reduction because the store manager put me down for "Staff Discount"
