Default Can anyone Advise a make of taperd leader ?

I went to the bother of threading a taperd leader through my flyline 9ft 7lb strain it was a airflo make with a tipet ring on the end. The problem is it,s broke twice with 5lb mono tied to the tippet ring. The reason i used 7lb was so when i used 4,5,6lb if i got snaged it would break at the right side. I can only conclued that airflo tapers are **** ? can anyone recomend a type of mono taperd leader that should be reliable. Thanks Alan

Make your own Singaporean tapered leaders. I've been making and using them for a year or so now and find them ideal for my SWFFing and river fly fishing needs. I've found a dead easy way to make them on good old Youtube (I used to make them slightely differently), just use the same BS or slightely stronger as your tippet. Cost's pennies and IMHO every bit as good a commercial leaders. See this link.
Cheers Dave

Virtually all tapered leaders come off of the one plant in Japan .

After that it is branding , cutting and packaging .

I am no friend of Airflo's - but probably not their fault on this one - how old was it ? They can deteriorate if inappropriately stored .

Best wishes

It doesn't refer to it in the vid but when you've done your initial "furl" and fold it for the second "furl", I make my second fold at the 1/3rd mark. This makes the leader 50/50 4 strand/2 strand. I find a 2m length of line makes a leader about 4ft, then just add your tippet.

The worry is how long has it been in the shop you got it from ,sometimes have watched stuff sit on tackle shop shelves for more than a few seasons .
With Nylons I tend to buy the lighter strains on an annual basis as "old Nylons" degrade with age !

Quite right Andy and clear Maxima can be had from here for only £3.49 delivered which makes the process less painful.

Thanks you,re right i dont know how long they had it and it is a bit sus when 5lb maxima is breaking the so called 7lb airflo. However i,ve just put one of them leaders together and went out for a quick cast. I find it great magic for turning over. Thanks again btb i realise now there will be no unwinding isues but any advice on dia or lbs to use would be apreciated. regards Alan
