Default Ordered Rod online

Hi
Just received delivery of a rod from an online order and it appears used, maybe not fished with but there is no plastic on the cork and it appears slighty dirty. Rod was discounted as they are now discontinued but I would've thought that they would have said ex- display or something.

What do you reckon?

Agree with the responses so far.

And remember, Grommit wouldn't do that to you!

If it happens to be a discontinued Sage XP and you got it discounted for 50 quid, I'll give you 100 quid and I will pay the postage. Cheers

Discounted doesn't mean used or ex-display. If you bought it as new then it should arrive as new! Even if it was discounted.

Personally I'd send it back!

In your place if I thought it only a bit of dirt on the cork then I'd clean it up with a bit of soap and water (not scourers if you want to keep any filler in place) and chillax. People practice cast with new rods all the time some shops have purpose built ponds or other waters nearby and although it's usual to leave the plastic on, if the rod got wet you'd have to remove it to allow the cork to dry...

If I thought "used" I might return, but would consider whether I could get a used rod in similar condition cheaper than the "new" one. If it was still a bargain I'd not make a fuss.

Really though it's up to you. If you feel really cheated send it back.

Not every new rod comes with plastic on the handle, Redington & Vision to name two brands dont come with any plastic on the handle.

Therefore if its been on display its likely for the handle to become slighty dirty from customers picking them up in the shop.

If your worried why not pick up the phone & get the shop to tell you why their selling it cheaper, could be end of line or ex shop demo, whichever it is a slightly dirty handle should not be a problem.
