Default DIY Portable Rod holder for boats

Anyone that uses boats will know how tough they are on you,re gear. So i come up with this to keep you,re rod and reel from getting knocked about scraped and chiped. The idea is to fix the clamp to the boat plank and the rod is held firmly inside the holder, Works a treat.

Hi There,

About ten or fifeen years ago I clamped a 70 mm length of similar plastic pipe to the side of my Bob Church boat seat. Most loch style rods have a small extension handle and with part of the reel seat inside the pipe as well that has never let me down even in the roughest of weather.

It is always there and seldom if ever gets in the way.

You can get a short length of Aluminium strip about an 25 mm wide and 3 mm thick from Homebase and it is very easy to bend and drill a couple of holes in each side.

Some self tapping screws easily fix it to the boat seat.

Best Regards

robbie

There no use.they have a ridge along the back and are curved.so don't work (tried them)
The clamp has to have a flat back in width and length to work.

Jim what about an old vice bracket. may not just as long as but the pipe is surprisingly strong

For my boat seat i use a 5" version that the reel sits into then a rubber tie for the top of the butt.

I have seen many versions fixed to the side of the big tackle boxes.
