Default Grayling fishing near Clitheroe

Hi Guys,

New to this whole thing, so thank you in advance, but I am looking for some help. Will be staying in Clitheroe next weekend and am looking for somewhere to go Grayling fishing for a couple of hours. Anywhere near or North (Traveling to Scotland) of Clitheroe would be ideal. Websites for permits etc would be appreciated as I am planning to fish on Sunday, so, I would imagine most shops would be closed?

Thanks again,

Mike

Your best bet would be the Slaidburn beat of the Hodder. Buy your day ticket from the village shop, open early even on a Sunday. About £8 I think. Try just above the bridge for starters. Don't step in any Salmon redds whatever you do.

It is North of Clitheroe, over Waddington Fell and right at Newton. Afterwards, if you were in no hurry you could take the Trough of Bowland road up towards Lancaster and rejoin the M6 there. Head towards Dunsop Bridge and enjoy a fabulous country run.

Default Where to Stay when you are there

Hi Michael

If you do go where Sharkey P suggested and you dont yet have somewhere to stay down there , I stayed in the Waddington Arms last week and it was a great wee pub with really good food and the beer was OK to.

Just a thought in case it helps.

Cheers

Inn at Whitewell is the place to stay in the area, and provides a good hodder beat to fish for residents.

If you decide on slaidburn, I believe there is some accom in the village, the stocks regulars on here could fill you in on that.

Thanks for all the advice. Looks like we will head to the Hodder for a couple of hours on the Sunday.

Michael,
the weather has conspired against you. Winter is back with a bang in the Ribble Valley. You may have heard that Stocks was frozen over on opening day. The Hodder begins below Stocks' dam. Today it's snowing and personally I wouldn't attempt either the road over Waddington Fell or The Trough of Bowland road in this weather.

I was amongst the disappointed hundred or so anglers turned away from Stocks yesterday morning. I passed the Slaidburn PO/Village shop around 8.15am (on the way back) and it was still closed which was a surprise. I'm sure I bought a day ticket earlier than that last year. Somebody mentioned you can get day tickets from the Jam Pot which is the café near the car park if you are able to get there. I also heard it's gone up to £10.

I realise this advice has probably come too late. I hope you enjoyed your visit to this area in spite of the weather and had a safe journey on to Scotland.
