Default People you meet in Flyfishing

In a strange way i have to say ive met more decent people in fishing than in any other walk of life. From the fisheries to the wild places north and south of the border ive met many good people i now consider close friends that id otherwise have never bumped into. Meeting Alex Wilkie (Rook) gave me a new inspiration to target pike again on the fly and i have yet to meet anyone more mad keen for flyfishing than him, he lives and breathes it every day. Guys like bobby and eileen quinn wee joe and the gang all top anglers who spend quality time helping loads of people every week around the harelaw and snypes . It really is a wonderful sportAlso alot of my punters are very interesting people with great outlooks and its sometimes difficult to walk by them without a good chinwag, thats one of the reasons im always late home...

There alot more to fishin than just fish.....

Default people

So true Alex.More good by a long way than bad.To be an angler you do have something good inside to start with and the vast majority of the people that I come across are of the decent type. Perhaps we can have a day or two targeting pike on the fly this year? Sometimes a meeting with someone can just light up things and re energise you.Keep up the good work.

I've got one..
I was on a company fishing club day at Syon, and there was this guy flailing away really having a hard time of it. He had brand new kit, Hardy, and I approached him. I gave him some pointers in how to cast, gave him a fly, and watched him catch his first fish, and helped him land it.
He was grateful, then made his way around the lake. Later on he approached me, and asked me if I ever went out to eat in London. I said I had been to a few of the big hotels, but didn't especially make a point of it. He said that he had a restaurant, it was called the Ivy. I said that I'd never heard of it!
He said that it ws usually pretty booked, but if I rang he would try and squeeze me and my partner in. He left soon after. He actually told me he was an ex-footballer for a Scottish club.
My friend said to me do you know who that was? To which I replied "who's Gordon Ramsey?".
I rang the Ivy a week later and the receptionist said that she would have to speak to the Boss. She came back after a couple of minutes and she said "He's never heard of you. *click*"

I'm not surprised – Gordon Ramsay doesn't own The Ivy!

Never? He said that he did. This was probably 15 years back.
