Default Oops, too late! Swimming; Glug Glug!

Well, last Saturday, I met up with my fishing mate on the lower Taff. We were optimistic at maybe catching a few nice Grayling! Well, my fishing partner is always eager to get on the water, even if is up a little and fast flowing; So, he got there early, well, about 9am, he sent me a message saying - It's fish-able! Anyhow, I arrived about 10.30am, tackled up and went to find G, When I found him, he was up to his waist in fast flowing water (He's young) and had just hooked in to a nice Grayling of about a pound and a half! I asked if he minded me fishing in front of him up-river? he didn't mind! So, I clambered down the bank and proceeded to search the margins on my side of the river; but, as we all do! I eventually waded out a little in to the current of the river ( I have a good pair of boots with studs to hold fast in the water) about knee high; and although it was fast flowing, I could mange to move forward - by standing sideways on to the flow and taking one step at a time, very gingerly! Well, of-course, as we all do, I moved out a little further - but the current was quicker and the depth increased to above the waist! I'd only been fishing for about 20,minutes. I knew the flow was too much for me so I shouted across the river to G, telling him I was going to find somewhere a bit calmer up-stream! And then it happened! As I was working my way back to the bank-side, I stepped on an extremely slippery slimy stone!! I went A-over-T and up to my neck in water! And the inevitable happened; as some of the water got inside my waders! Although Saturday saw a good deal of sunshine, it was still cold! Even colder in the water! I can hear G, laughing as I took an unplanned swim; I was lucky his camera was still in it's case! But, he waded safely across the river to help me clamber up the bank. G, helped me to wring out some of my clothes! Anyhow, I decided to carry on fishing! So we moved up stream to a where the river had a less powerful flow. We continued fishing until 3pm, but failed to entice any Silver Ladies to the net! But it was a day out on the river; and apart from the impromptu swim! I enjoyed the day immensely! Has anyone else got a story, or maybe some photos of : Angling Mishaps on the River? I'm sure we would all love to read about them or see the photographic evidence! We could look-back and laugh together!

Hope you've dried out a little since Saturday Most', and hope you're feeling a little warmer too! I'd never take a photo of you in that situation though don't worry, I'd expect to be thrown in myself if I had!

'Going under' is always a little scary though, just gotta be careful to keep the panic down and try to plant your feet again...if you're going to get wet, it's going to happen. Got you out safe and sound in the end, albeit a little wetter than when you'd entered Glad you're feeling a bit better now though.

I remember taking a tumble in the Elan back in Nov...I actually made three full breast strokes before planting my feet...scary business! Thank the Lord for the bottle of wine at the bunk house later that night!

Gareth....how could you laugh at the poor chap???

I once got zapped in the boll*cks by an electric fence. I was only about 12-13 and not so tall. My old mad just put one leg over the fence and then swept the other over.....simples!!! I got one leg over, tried to sweep the other over and it got me not only in the knackers but all down my leg as i went over!!! I was wearing one of those old nylon shell suits that were all the rage at the time....can't have helped!!

Oh and my old man............nearly died laughing!!!

Sorry but so would I

I saw a piglet hit an electric fence with its nose once.....I have never laughed as hard when seeing it run around the field at 100mph in a pink blur, squealing its head off.

I took a dip last year on the Welsh Dee in march the view of the sun through the surface as I fell backwards onto my **** was nice but once I scrambled up the bank I had to stop fishing due to the uncontrollable shaking a mixture of Cold and pure terror

---------- Post added at 08:56 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:54 AM ----------

Also If anyone frequents the Tackle shops of Wrexham in North wales They will have come accross the story of my Mate getting chased accross a Field by a herd of Cows and jumping into the welsh Dee to get Away

I fell in the Lyd in Devon a couple of years ago, scary.....always use a wading staff now (which is a great help getting in and out of the river where there are steep slippery banks!)

Regards

Peter
