Lot's of threads on CS if you do an advanced search on it.

I'd be interested to know how many anglers are on the fishery if the weather's ok.
I get the distinct feeling that the owners are spoiling it for anglers by allowing overbooking.

Ok; it's a recession & it must be hard to turn people who haven't booked in advance away at the gates when it's full (whatever that means!) but I'm going to try the place twice in the early part of this coming season during the week.
If it's anything like it was last year, then those will be my last trips to this fishery & they'll always have space for one more!

At one of my visits in August there were 5 anglers fishing the North Pool which is about 30 feet in diameter. 2 fish were caught there within about 10 minutes on a slow afternoon & it was beyond a joke.
Fish in all lakes were spooked to high heaven by being cast at with such frequency in about 4.5 total acres of water.

It's a lovely fishery if you ever get a quiet day, but an example of a victim of it's own success all the rest of the time.

That sounds like my vision of hell.

Steve. My club had it in early Jan,ok we did not quite meet the numbers to take the place over, but others were allowed on and i'm dure it was more than the allotted amount!!!.
Anyway,
There are some decent fish in the pools, not easy pickings though. If its busy-as on our club day,its usually easy to start with and gets progressively harder as the day goes on.As with most catch and kill waters, you either take em whilst you can or try and spin it out, which can end up with you struggling a bit!!!. Water is very clear,so fish can be spotted but of course they can spot you just as easy.
If you are not concerend about stalking the better fish or want a couple of quick early fish, damsel, eggflies, cats or green fritzy jobbies should see you right.

Hi chub1.
I understand this point about early mornings.
CS is the only place I didn't catch my limit at in my last 15 or so trips since I started again last August.
I tried to be patient & go for a big brownie which used up about 3 hours.
I did however get this 2lb 10oz brown on a hacklepoint coachman dry:

I finished with 3 fish on a 4 fish limit.

Seems like there is a recurring issue here...
Question is, has anyone here been to Chalk Spring on a reasonable day (ie not raining like hell or snowing) in the last year when it's been down to 10 or 15 anglers?

I've not seen a single post in this forum that suggests someone going there on a quiet-ish day.

by the sounds of it, its most likely to be pretty busy.

Does anyone know much about blackwool farm fishery as an alternative, not really into the idea of being involved in a free for all asault on the water with 20 plus anglers lol

Me again, I'm afraid
Blackwool Farm
To cut a long story short, it was me by my lonesome at the specimen lake & yes I would go again.
