Default Newby Fly line help please ?

Hi all
could you give me a little advise on what fly line to use ? right this is my situation . I have a Telescopic fly rod it 's 9' long and says its a 5/ 6 weight ..i got a cheap line ( a very cheap line ) and its a 5 but it seams to be hard to get it to come out of the end of the rod and hangs in like a coil between the runners ?? i know its just not right even if i flick the end of the rod it does it to and then it falls through the end runner ..i suspect it is cos the line is cheap or the wrong weight ..any advise ???

Thanks in advance

Jay

Hi Jay and welcome to the forums...

I would contact Pitsford Pirate on these forums he sells some quality lines at very affordable prices, I have a couple and I'm on a very tight budget recently... I'm positive he will be able to help! Your rod being telescopic may be causing you some problems, I've owned a couple over the years. They have there uses but they wouldn't be my recommendation for a fly rod.

I have no experience of telescopic rods but first off try stretching the line to get some of the curls out which is called memory. screw a hook in a fence or tree somewhere where you can attach the line to out of the end of your rod and move away from the hook pulling your line out the end of the rod and keep it strtched for about half an hour then wind it back on your reel and try again. Or buy another line. Welome to the forum.

Just a query but if you tape it down would this not affect its casting ability
I think you would be better looking for a small rod and there are cheap ones .
The fladen ones come to mind as I have heard good things about them , they may not be top quality but Im sure they would do the trick.

If its taped down its more like a whip than a rod i looked at a short childs rod in bennets looked nice but there is no chance i could get to my favorite spot with a rod in my hand there is a 14' wall tree's bridges tunnels and loads of bushes so when i want to move i just ship her down i am not good at this fly stuff yet i just tie on a hairs ears beed head ( i think ) and sorta lob it around but i do catch fish so thats the main thing its just this line problem thats croped up now i am getting more used to what i am doing and after using a conventional rod not so long back i see the problems with mine ..i sorta solved the line coming through the end ring by gluing a sight bobin to the braided loop thingy but the line stil coils so when i sorta roll it it goes over the rod ..i think it is the memorry that is the problem now ..but under close inspecsion i have noticed the line is starting to crumble so i dont think its worth using anymore anyway ..like i said earlier would it be worth my while going for a lighter line ?? i dont sorta cast but more like flick the line off the water serface
