Default Camping and fly fishing

Can anyone recommend anywhere that allows camping beside a river in UK where trout fishing is possible?

Thanks for any advice.

Does it need to be a river, or is it enough to target wild fish?

I was thinking the Lake District is a good place for that kind of outing (and is high on my list of places to do a camp/fish). Some rivers but plenty of wild fishing.

Maybe you could advise if you are "family/car camping" or "hike/bivvy camping" (I assume you mean camping in a tent).

The lakes is also good for e.g. base camp at low level then a hike with potential wild camp/wild fish in a remote tarn.

How near a river? - Would a Lake/Loch do?
Camp Site, or Wild/Stealth camping?

How much are you prepared to pay for the fishing?

Dol Llys Camping - Google Maps

The link above is pretty good. It has fishing on the Severn that runs through the camp site. Better water to be found downstream but not a bad all round set up. Clewedog is just up the road aswell and that's a fantastic place to fish.

If you go on the first friday in July you can take part in the biggest fancy dress party in europe!!! It's a great night out!!!

Camping is possible virtually anywhere mate. You can't be 'done' for pitching anywhere, only asked to leave. All I'm saying there is, that it can often be worth a shot if you're on a road trip and somewhere just takes your fancy.. but be prepared for the possibility of being asked to leave. I've been approached by landowners after pitching up on more than one occasion. They arrived with a frown and the intention of asking us politely to get lost. They left whistling a happy tune, having urged us to stay as long as we liked. Amazing what keeping your camp site ship-shape, good manners and a bit of charm can achieve... I usually leave that bit to my partner

Default Thanks

Thanks for the replies. (and apologies for the delay in replying)

We were really trying to find something as wild as possible. (ie not a manicured site with caravans/facilities etc)

We have been to one site in Wales where a small river runs through a wooded area which has wild brownies and you can camp with a fire next to the water.

We have a car but want it to be as wild (feeling) as possible.

I guess the lake district would be best, I just love small river fishing (and camping) so am just looking for more places where this is possible.

If anyone else has any suggestions that would be great.

Once again, thanks for the previous responses.

Mark

Mark,

Would you mind letting me know where this was, as we often go to Wales.

Thanks
