Default Do stillwaters think about students and discounts??.

In this country we have a great thing for the young person, called work experience, normally done in the last year of school.
last year we offered 2 young lads, who are anglers a chance to get to know about the workings around a stillwater and what it entails. Both are known well to us,keen and genuine young lads.Unfortunatly it never happened.

The main reason was cost,It was going to cost us alot to do it,with insurances etc,The council wouldnt help towards it,but they were gaining money from it,but for the benefit of helping 2 young lads, couldnt offer a little to help us do it for them.

Happily now, we are in a position ,where we can help them and others,at our own cost.

So why the post?

Reading posts about why should prices be cheaper for this and that person, awareness of the other work that fisheries do,ie charities, etc where they are not profiting from. Not all fisheries are out to make a fortune and as they do get knocked alot, there is a lot of postive work which goes unknown.

So when people think we are in it for the money and fortune, have a thought about what you dont see going on behind the scenes.

One way we do help young students?????No discount for doing it either to the fishery, just job satisfaction.

Cheers grayling and Bruce for your comment, just thought it was worth showing that there is more to it than just the fishing and a little more goes on behind the scene.
Some of the young lads who fish with us,we give them wee jobs around the place and like cleaning the mower, litter picking, although the anglers are really good and dont leave much, and then we pay them for any work and some fishing. It helps us out and them.
They enjoy their days with us and its a good laugh with them, gives them a bit of grounding for working life aswell. But its fun and helpfull for both sides. At least they are learning something and enjoy it.

I can give you some water wings Liam if its safety, lol.

Plenty fisheries do the same but its all unseen,as soon as something goes wrong to someones dislike, its jumped on,.But many do alot of good work and dont look for any thanks, its part of the fun and pleasure, other than money.
Should have told me sooner ,just took someone on a few months ago.

its a funny old world.

very well said kevin. sometime we all need a reminder that there's a lot more going on in the background, than is obvious to us.
