Default Opinions on leaders for sinking tip lines

I use an 8 wt w/ Rio Outbound Intermediate Sinking for striped bass, black bass and various in shore salt water species. Being a converted dry fly angler I'm wondering if I may be too leader conscious for the task. I've been told that the leaders I'm using are unnecessary for the type of fishing I do. The "expert" advice I've been getting is to simply use a quality piece of mono of a diameter suitable for the size fish and of sufficient length to turn over to fly rather than the tapered leaders I tie.

Any and all advice is appreciated
