Default ever wondered why ther are no sea trout in Loch leven anymore?

Here are a couple of reasons and there are a few more after them as well as the gates. Time for an engineering solution perhaps?

Not working just takes you to a site where you have to register.

There was I believe, an attempt a few years ago to get obstructions to migratory fish entering Loch Leven removed from the river leven ,but there was some ''Technical Reason'' to do with Generating power. and it was refused.

I was looking at the SEPA sheet on the lower Leven and it did have that on it but I have no idea where this would be. The sheet also has good passaility with low confidence. I will give them a ring on Monday and let them know about the big weirs on the lower river that have only been there for 150 years. I have been told that the Forth authority have employed a weir engineer for the coming year so now would be a good time to get them assessed I would think.

(Works for me). I had a look at some other fish passes. The simplest ones seem to be constructed of metal sheeting with a grill placed over the top and just bolted to the face of the weir with something in the flow above to direct a decent current down the pass. Fairly straightforward to construct. But is the beaurocracy going to be so easy to by-pass? Asher recovered from her walk? JB

I've seen fish swim up weirs (caulds) that looked just like those.

The most spectacular run of fish I can recall was on the Trowmill cauld near Hawick in 1964 and by the time the fish had reached Hawick they'd had to climb a lot of caulds.

Most of them have either been blown up or had a fish pass installed since then.
